Frequently asked questions
How should I choose a deck builder in San Diego?
Compare portfolios and recent project photos to judge build quality and materials. Verify local experience, proper licensing and insurance, and check references and recent reviews to see how contractors handle scheduling, permits and cleanups.
What does a typical deck project cost?
Costs vary widely depending on deck size, materials, structural complexity and whether permits are required. Get multiple written estimates that break out materials, labor and permit fees so you can compare apples to apples rather than relying on a single quote.
What should I check before hiring a deck contractor?
Confirm the contractor holds the required state and local licenses and carries liability and workers’ compensation insurance. Ask for a written contract with scope, timeline, payment schedule and warranty details, and request proof of recent references or completed jobs you can inspect.

This ranking is based on Google review data using a Bayesian-style approach that weights a business’s average rating by its number of reviews, then updated for 2026. It reflects public Google listings and review counts; it does not incorporate private estimates or direct inspections.
